Happy 4th of July!

4th of July ~ HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

I'm not one for crowds or the craziness of holiday traffic, but we decided to venture into the city today to take in the celebrations for the Fourth of July.  We scored our regular shaded parking spot (good sign) and we knew we could return home in minutes if it was too hot for Zu.  But, once we arrived in the city center, Zuma was enthusiastic and chilled out, the festivities were fun, the people bubbling with happiness, the sun shone and it was a really fun day.

There was the usual trilogy of flags, ice cream and hot dogs:

There were also COOL dogs, thanks to a long-jump competition where many athletic dogs blasted off from a launching pad to chase after a toy into a huge swimming pool to claim fame and fortune:

People commented on how Zu would be good at this contest.  Ha! As Doug says, she won't even walk through a puddle.  She ignored the whole dog plunge thing, pretending it wasn't even happening. Not her thing!

However, Zuma was delighted to be in her fave city for the day. It's been hot here and we don't like to leave her for more than an hour or two (even though we have super air conditioning in the RV) as she loves to be out and about with us, so our activity schedule revolves around temperature.   She has no separation anxiety, but we just like to be together.  Normally, we avoid crowds so as not to stress her but she is so chill and feels genuinely at home in Asheville .... people know her (and us) and we feel like locals.

We visited the Brother Wolf booth.
This is an outstanding Animal Rescue here
True compassion.
Amazing, devoted volunteers.

We met lots of cool dogs and their owners.
This is Scoobie:

 His owner joked that
he was a Scoobie snack for Zu:

There was this dog who wanted to crawl under Zuma.
I think she was really attracted to his cape:

And this dog:

And this dog:

Zuma loves a good party and thrives on the honest, calm energy of children who want to hang out with her.

Kids love to size themselves up to her.

She is so humble,
she doesn't have a clue how much she gives to people.

In the evening, we met up with many fellow "campers" at the RV Park and watched the fireworks from the top of the hill here.

Zuma was disappointed she wasn't invited but I don't believe in dogs and fireworks.  Thunder hurts the ears of a dog and fireworks can be so loud and erratic; many a dog has bolted wildly and blindly from a fireworks display.  So Zu stayed home, the AC cranked up to block any noise.  The cooking channel on the tv.  She was fine.  We're hoping she is soon going to have learned enough culinary skills she'll surprise us with a gourmet dinner soon.

WE HOPE YA'LL HAD A HAPPY FOURTH!!!!

                                            WE DID!
