WOOFSTOCK! Peace, Love, Drool.

September 14, 2016

Zuma here.  Finally I get a chance to blog and tell you MY side of the story.  My people took me to WOOFSTOCK in Charlotte, NC on the weekend and it was a blast.  It was organized by Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love and Blue Ridge Boxer Rescue.  There were so many Danes of all colors and sizes!  I even got to hang out in The Mystery Van!

There were Danes everywhere and for once nobody asked my people "Ya gotta saddle for that?"

Everybody was groovin' Scooby Doo style.
The local TV station was filming.

Adoptable dogs were led around the event, searching for that special person who would give them a forever home.

There were booths with collars and bowls and all kinds of dog cookies!  I had a lot of treats.  I got a new spiffy collar too!

My new friend Iris and I hung out at the bar for a little while
and checked out the guys going by.

They were out for a good time.

Some were shopping, counter-surfing style:

Others were just cruising:

There were dogs of all breeds and I made some cool new friends.
This little girl and I really hit it off.

There were hot dogs

and cool dogs,

Big dogs

and little dogs.

THERE WERE NO CROPPED EARS!  HOORAY!

At the Boxer Rescue booth, the party girls
were well-dressed for the occasion.

This Pug arrived in style.
She was with the Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue booth:

Steele Creek Animal Hospital had a booth showing
the amazing physical rehabilitation work they do:

We heard a lot of rescue stories.  There was a gorgeous black Great Dane who was found chained to a tree (she'd been tied up for two years); her mouth was missing molars and she had nerve damage to her tongue, so she was unable to keep it in her mouth.  Probably due to her chewing on the chain to free herself.  I don't get it.  Why have a dog?  Get a goldfish.

This one was the worst.  I met this beautiful, sweet Boxer; she had a long scar on her back.  She was rescued after someone apparently threw acid on her, which, it is believed, was part of a gang initiation and happens more often than we all want to believe.  This girl has a fantastic home now.

Then there are the happy stories, the stories of hope.
The Greyhound rescue people (Greyhound Friends of North Carolina) kept a fan on one of their rescue dogs:

My people bought me a cooling vest.
Soak it in water, wring it out, chill.
Perfect!
I felt cool all day and I could even wear black.
Oh yeh, I AM black.

It was a fun day!

These precious pooches invited us to The Dog Bar where they hang out, so we went there after the WOOFSTOCK event.
