A 5 minute drive from where we're staying is Carrier Park, a lovely expanse of green with a river winding alongside and plenty of trees for shade. It's an ideal destination to walk, jog, stroll with your dog. We go there several times a week. At the end of the trail is a
Dog Park. The people and dogs who go there are all friendly and we meet new faces every visit. Zuma has a great time running with a pack of little dogs nipping at her heels. She's kinduv like the favorite Aunt to the other dogs. She also has a good time with the large dogs. Here are some pix:
This is Gerry, a darling Basenji who was begging for a snack off a woman we were talking to after trying to gnaw through her jacket pocket. He was zipping around the dog park like a barrel racer.
A very large very cool dog.
Dakota, an eight year old Great Dane rescued as a puppy. She was the runt of the litter and the breeder was going to euthanize her as she wasn't perfect. We meet her and her friendly owner regularly on our morning walks at Carrier Park. She is the sweetest dog.
Zuma and Roxy the Boxer and assorted entourage members. Note the little herding dog nipping at Zuma's hocks!
The Dog Park is fun. Zuma has learned from others how to chase a ball and retrieve it. She loves hanging out with dogs of all sizes. The owners are all dog-focused (except for a couple who have two unruly ferocious pit bulls). We avoid them. It's not the dogs, it's the owners.
People bring in jugs of water for the dogs to share from a communal bowl. Normally this would freak me out, germaphobic that I am. But these people really take care of their dogs so I feel it is safe. They offer cookies to every canine and they chat and offer suggestions about other places to walk our dogs. It's a great social activity for all of us and it's a real blast for the dogs.
