Emma and Doug arrived two days ago! She's staying with us in Santa Fe for a few days so I've been in "Barbie Tour Guide" mode. Since we're both lovers of fanatics about museums, a trip to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum was essential. The museum is beautiful and exhibits a fabulous display of Georgia's works: sketches and paintings from her life (1987 - 1986), as well as her paintbrushes and paints, photographs and memoribilia. She was most certainly ahead of her time as a Modernist Artist and is best known for her huge detailed portraits of flowers and her sensitive paintings of the southwest and the land surrounding Santa Fe.
It just made sense to travel north of the city, to view the landscapes that inspired this iconic artist. We went there today. Here are some photos of the places that inspired her, the places she loved so much:
This is a small part of The Rio Grande:
Pinon-dotted hillsides, scrub land, cacti:
Snow on the distant mountains, desert in the foreground:
Every now and then on our way to the town of Taos,
a community of adobe homes:
We spent the day in and around Taos, but that's another blog ....
On our way back into Santa Fe we stopped at Camel Rock,
a natural sculpture formed by the desert winds:
It was a long day of discovery of new territory,
a day we will always remember.
