April 6th, 2017.
Gloria is the local black bear who lives near us at the Park.
Like, less than 100' away.
Have you seen Trailer Park Boys on Netflix?
Well, this is Trailer Park Girl. She does whatever she wants to.
Minus the alcohol and the weed.
Gloria apparently dwells directly behind Hula Girl on the steep embankment between us and the highway but I'm not about to investigate because, well, it's a female black bear. The local Game Warden Dudes have been here recently to check on her and see what she's up to (peddling dope, flogging Girl Scout cookies, the usual bear crimes).
Gloria wears a GPS tracking collar; she's been here for a while and there is a rumor that she probably has two cubs.
Gloria's 2 year old trotted freely around the campground last summer; he boldly climbed on a nearby camper's picnic table, stole their burgers as they stared helplessly, slurped his paws and sauntered past a group of us who were standing (stunned) on our lawn. Then he plodded through the parking lot, ignoring everyone. He was just doing his black bear thing. This is his turf.
His Mom is Gloria. He can do whatever he wants to.
Gloria (named by a woman who works at the office) pretty much owns this corner of the park. And we're all cool with that.
Black bears don't really bother you unless you mess with them or get between Mama and her cubs and then all bets are off.
'There is no more dangerous animal in the forest'.
Zuma barks about twice a year, but, with Gloria hanging around, she's barked twice in the past week. A succession of serious deep booming woofs that make my legs go numb from the knees up which is really not advantageous if I have to kick it into high gear and get away from Gloria. The neighbors are always surprised when Zu goes off on her 'alert barking' performance, but we're all grateful she is tuned in because then we all know Gloria is around and everyone snatches up their small children and dogs and turfs them inside. I'm so proud Zu's on the case.
'Bout time she got a job.
Trailer Park Bears. Keeps life interesting.
