We had an unexpected and uninvited dinner guest here this evening. It was about 7 p.m., dinnertime. He wandered through the campground as if he owned it, climbing on a picnic table and helping himself to a meal a family was preparing. He even sat ON TOP of the picnic table and shamelessly nom nom nommed the food down, then he cruised up to our neighborhood.
A small group of us were standing out on the side lawn beside our motor home with Zuma, chatting as we often do in the evenings. Zuma was enjoying her daily visit with little Gavin and his Dad and a few others. Suddenly, she lifted her head, sniffed the air, then froze statue still, staring intently at something. Someone asked "What is Zuma looking at?"; I said it was likely a cat. Then we saw him. A black bear was strolling across the parking lot in broad daylight with not a care in the world! We all stared, speechless. Then we all bolted. It was a bit like a cartoon. The bear didn't even look our way. We whisked kids and dogs and ourselves into our motor homes and hastily slammed the doors while ole Yogi sauntered between other tenant's places and then trotted off into the woods!
A teenage girl managed to film a short video on her cell of the bear and showed it to me (not this above photo!), but she was fairly far away; we laughed that her hands were shaking so much it was pretty difficult to view!
Next time Zuma "gives the alert" I for one will certainly take note!
These are more my kinduv bears.
